English information

The Bureau voor Toetsing en Certificering (Exam en Certification Bureau) organizes exams which are part of the certification schemes for critical (safety) functions in the railway sector.
Two foundations are responsible for the development and content of these schemes and exams:

  • Foundation railAlert, for critical functions in the railway infrastructure sector and
  • Foundation vakmanschap & veiligheid railvervoer (VVRV), for critical functions in the railway transport sector.

Both foundations are assigned by the minister of Transport and Water Management.

Independent committees run by railAlert and VVRV monitor the exams organized by BTC. Authorized representatives from the railway companies serve on these committees and the board of the foundations.

The main tasks of BTC are:

  • Organizing and managing all exams developed by railAlert and VVRV
  • Employing and training assessors
  • Providing en registering certificates
  • Serving as secretary and liaison for the board and committees of VVRV

On behalf of railAlert and VVRV we work for about 400 companies and examine more than 3000 candidates each year.
